You don't ground the col wire to check for ignition voltage coming out of the coil. if you actually mean 'grounded it' ...there won't be any spark visible if it is working. if you mean - put the end of the coil near the block to see if a spark is there and will jump the 1/4 inch gap .. no spark there means ignition is not happening.
