Yes on a still night or day, those generators, even the so-called quiet
ones, they can be heard about a half mile away...You, of course, won't hear
it because you'll have your a.c. or heater or TV or DVR or Jacuzzi running
and it will drown out your generator's noise. But I guarantee everyone
around you WILL hear it...
Some people are used to that nagging backround noise and don't mind
it...but other's find it intrusive and distracting. If someone pulled in
next to you and played the Moody Blues over and over and over, you probably
wouldn't accept that with grace....a significant sample of the people can't
stand the Moody Blues, no matter how "mellow" they are said to be....
Same-0 with a generator in a place that is not a formal campsite with
'generator hours' so people without them can choose another place to camp,
or put up with the noise till 'quiet time'...
That being said, the smaller Honda is pretty quiet...the 2000 ones, they
drive me nuts cause they speed up when the load is increased....so I am
always thinking, when my neighbors kicks up the RPMs..."What, she turned on
the waffle iron? Zapping a pop tart?...then it drops back to the
drone...till they turn on another appliance.....The cheap Eastern
copies....those are so noisy their owners can't even stand em....lots of
RVers just turn them on and drive away in their second car....let em run
all day till they come back to "camp" and turn it off...
I may be a dinosaur, thinking one should be able to find quiet without
backpacking..
