The Volkswagen Crafter, introduced in 2006 and built by Daimler AG,is the
largest 3 to 5 tonne van sold by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. It is the
third generation of the Volkswagen LT truck, which has been in production
since 1975. Starting with its second generation, the LT/Crafter is a
rebadged Mercedes Sprinter with a VW powertrain.  Also sold by Daimler as
the Mercedes Sprinter, and formerly as the Freightliner Sprinter and Dodge
Sprinter, the Crafter officially replaced the 31 year old LT nameplate,
although it is known as the LT3 as its production plant code.
