I've used talcum powder and soap over the years, but the last time I replaced my rear hatch window seal I could not get it to go in far enough at the last corner even with two people pushing on it. Finally used silicone spray. Worked like a charm! Also used my 40 year old 1/4" cotton rope which was originally soaked in oil, but maybe you can't buy cotton rope anymore! Someone did suggest using parachute cord, I was using just plain nylon rope, which is what I'd always used on the others. I've tried using both soapy water and talcum powder, the powder being the messiest of the two. Hell, maybe I put on an '84 or earlier door, which has a bigger window opening! That was the reason for replacing the glass/seal, I had a very dented sliding door that I replaced with one from a junkyard.
