Actually, on Vanagons very little of the power needed for running the engine runs through the ignition switch. Most of the power needed for the engine while it is running comes from the alternator right to the fuel injection system wiring and with no fuses involved.

In Vanagons the ignition switch powers on the ignition coil. It also turns on the power relays in the engine compartment. The exact details varied over the years.
