Well, the house I grew up in, that required such frequent repainting, was also exposed to heavy doses of salt air from the nearby (1500') seashore - something I suppose the mid-continent lacks. (Cars out there rust out at spectacular speed too.)
Though our mid-continent wood garage door, with factory finish, is in need of repainting after only five years - or so my wife says. Perhaps her standards are a bit high? Or it could be the salt and dirt that gets on it from the long winters here. Certainly the paint on the door has lost all its surface luster. We'll have to try a better paint, I suppose.
