The brass ring that is in the wheel can be replaced. Often you will find them broken, worn through in spots. I think van cafe sells the rings.

The spring tab that I think is an exotic copper alloy (David B. Where are you?) also gets worn and distorted. Sometimes it gets worn into a nasty sharp thing. I don't know where you can get replacement for that. If I recall correctly it is riveted on to the turn signal switch assembly.
