Hi,
In 2008, I replaced the canvas in my 82 Westy with a replacement tent from GoWesty (canvas) and was happy with the results. It was a little loose, but there was no trouble installing it, except for the cracking of the tack strip during stapling (not present on 85 and newer).
My latest project is an 86 Weekender. Bought the in-house brand canvas from the Bus Depot and it does not fit well at all. Way too tight in several areas. Couldn't even stretch it to fit in 2 corners. Going to leave it be for the winter as I don't camp very much if at all, then remove and replace with a different vendor. Not looking forward to that, but since my purchase was back in May? I doubt they'll take it back. I should have measured the two tents side by side before installing the new one and I would have seen the several inch difference.
YMMV.
Cheers,
Marco

Subject: Screen Quality in New Pop top Canvas
Hi all
Here is the Poo!
I have an 85 Westy and have to replace the OE Canvas ( surprise, Surprise )
Now many of you guys know I own and operate an Upholstery and Canvas
shop in Michigan and make all sorts of Canvas things.
But here is my gig. I usually do not make or try to reinvent the
wheel. Hence I do not make pop top canvas Or do seat covers for VWs.
Plenty of others that make good quality items that are not worth my
time and effort to make or Reinvent.
Now, Since I do need to replace the canvas on my Own 85 as stated I
need to find out where to get one from.
I have seen 100s of canvas replacements but usually do not know who made them.
I do not want Acrylic or Hemp. Good Ol Quality Canvas in Tan. Seem
simple Right??
Seeing all the canvas made the one MAIN thing that I have seen that
makes me cringe is the Screen quality. Always looks and lasts like
cheap hardware store import door screen that fails!
So Who has purchased a pop top canvas and installed it themselves
that are very pleased with the canvas fit and finish as well as
Having a Heavy Weight Screen in it??
1 window or 3 window is fine. But it must exceed in Screen Material.
I do not want to have to swap screen in a few years is all.
If you do not want to offend any Suppliers on this list by Bad
mouthing them please send info directly to me and Off Site.
Again if all else fails I will make my Own. BUT, Again hate to
reinvent the wheel.
Thanks to all and happy Friday!
Jonce
