Oh yeah, I've replaced literally dozens of Mk1 Golf/Jetta/Scirocco ignitions switches, so I'm aware of the process, but was just wondering if there might be other contributing factors. Turns out that due to the utter simplicity of the access and limited effort on my part, I was able to quickly determine that the x relay was the culprit. I even have a spare ignition switch, but again...I'm bloody lazy today
