I don't know what that would be called - except - that on relatively
mover small airplanes the throttle and the propeller control are both
vernier cables with a lock button built into the handle. You can rotate
the knob left or right and the cable moves  in or out accordingly in
very fine movements. For gross adjustments the button in the center is
pushed which releases the lock and then the handle can be pushed or
pulled. I've often considered how that that would be for heat controls
on the Vanagon.
