Hi all
Here is what I collected and would want to say divide in half for the
space and then divide by number of people.
BUT, The vanagon is not sealed and usually someone opens a door which
blows it out the window.
(4) What about other spaces such as rooms, houses, etc.? How long
would one person last?
We're assuming a completely enclosed place - no more Oxygen in or out.
We're also assuming 1 person.
We will use a conversion factor of 0.3 m/foot and a conversion factor
of 0.09 m2/ft2
Length of time before
the Oxygen level drops
to 17.5% of the air
For a person at rest = 2.6 days 31.1 m3 x 0.061 day/m3
For a person doing NASA type activity = 1.9 days 31.1 m3 x 0.0071 day/m3
For a person exercising hard all day = 0.22 days or 5.3 h
Room
12 ft wide x 12 ft long x 8 ft ceiling
3.6 m x 3.6 m x 2.4 m = 31.1m3 31.1 m3 x 0.083 day/m3
Just looking for an approx space and time. How Long would a 3 wick
candle burn in a Vanagon before it self extinguished??
Since it is never fully sealed?
Would it extinguish at all?
I would guess at rest for 4 persons ( No candle ) approx 7.92 Hours
for O2 depletion. In a Sealed enclosure. But again if you open a door
you start over.
Use a candle (3 Wick) How much Faster would it be with the same 3 persons.
Crack a window 1/2" and it negates the candle. You allow 10 square
inches of fresh air. Open your fresh air vents on the dash and you
will get fairly good circulation.
Still might do an experiment this weekend with a 6x6x6 box and see
what happens. Multiply by 8 to give a full square foot.
All in fun, Things to think about on a Very Cold winter night!
