Well, I don't know how you feel about Harbor Fr*ight or if you have a store nearby, but recently using a coupon from the AARP newspaper, I got one of their small red meters for free. I guess that's infinite bang for the buck. :-) I also have their deluxe model 988674 which measures many different things. $45 regular price right now. It seems to update its voltage reading quite rapidly which I found helpful in checking an O2 sensor recently. In general, for automotive use, the ability to measure DC current up to 20 or 25 amps would be a good thing. Another question you will consider eventually is what happens when you screw up and connect it straight to 12v or 120v when it is set for current or resistance measurements. How is it protected and how much trouble and expense is involved in replacing the fuse or whatever.

Larry A. owns lots of meters, many of them lost at any given time
