Looks beyond awesome. Can't tell what trans it is, but looks like there are transmission oil cooler lines on it possibly.

my wild guess was that it refers to October just past. Easy to google for the Eco Race I imagine.

I've always wanted to do this sort of thing to a Vanagon shell.. I have 3 or 4 that could be 'gone crazy' on like this, in terms of outrageous mods, located in Southern Oregon. One is already pre-gutted and de-windowed by fire and just aching to have something like this done to it.

I have in the back of my mind a 'tall baja bug' arrangement .. driver sitting in the middle....at roof level ...like one or two seats are mounted very high so roof is at elbow level of the driver and passenger. No roof over those seats in my vision......minimalist stubby windshield, etc.

And most of the forward body structure removed... Large reinforcement tubes going everywhere. Helmut and googles would be normal attire.

I have raced in Baja btw . One of my 5 semi-joke claims to fame is I raced in the first Mexican 1000 Off Road Race in Nov 1967 in Baja California. A short paragraph and small picture of my mildly race-prepped and self-built 56 Chevy apeared in the Feb 68 Issue of Dune Buggies and Hot VW's. I had a 305 Cubic Inch Chev V-8 with performance cam and huge carb, 6 forward speeds in the trans and aluminum tube frame military aircraft front seats. It was the first car I ever owned too. It was easy to powerslide that cararound around a little on wide gravel roads down there at 75 mph ...on mexican public roads that were not closed even for the race. A great adventure for sure.

Thanks for posting this link.. nice to see some outrageous creativity in a serious off road Syncro !
