An easy way would be with a 555 timer (pretty sure RS still sells them) set up as a monostable.

With this circuit http://clarkson-uk.com/555-timer/operation/frames3.html you'd let the float switch supply ground to the 555, and have pin 3 drive the LED through a resistor.

There are lots of ways to skin this cat, but that's a pretty simple one.
