I have been experimenting with plastic welding for the first time during the past week. Being a serious cheapskate I got the HF tool that is like a soldering iron. I was fixing cracks in the AC evaporator housing on an '87 Wolfsburg and the covers that go below it on the D pillars. My first welds were not very strong; not enough penetration. After inventing a different tip things went better and I learned as I went along. The set included some oddly shaped "rods" but no info about what type of plastic they might be. One of my big questions is about how to identify the type of plastic you are working on. I understand that it is important to use the same type of filler rod if needed.
