Okay, since you mention it, Jim, now I don't feel so dumb admitting that this was the first idea I had. I wasn't sure of the exact size of the capacitor needed, but knew it would have to be pretty big, and thought, "that's crazy." So I figured there must be a more elegant solution and posted here. Thanks for weighing in.
