I've installed about 150 waterboxer water pumps without soaking them in
coolant first, fwiw.

In my experience  2.1 wbxr's do 70K  miles on a waterpump, that's about it.

I don't use that common japanese brand ...can't think of the name right now.
I use ones made in Italy usually.
