I do this sometimes.. works quiet well actually. I take a heat gun ...a shop/industrial type, not a hair dryer .. and rig it so it's aimed at whatever I want to not freeze, like maybe a foot and a half away.. and I just leave it going all night on low.

I did that for about 8 mights and days during much worse-the-usual freezing than Southern Oregon is used to..aiming it at exposed water pipes that could freeze and burst ..works like a charm.

and the ribs on the bottom of the water boxer case, since they increase surface area... those would even help with this method.
