That black cover can be really stuck. I have a pair of oil filter vise grips that come in handy for removing that cover. If I didn't have these, it would be either impossible or very difficult to remove that cover. Once it is off, changing the filter takes all of 60 seconds or less. It is just getting that cover off that is the pain.
