There were predecessor versions of this heater for air-cooled beetles and buses. I have one installed on my '81 Vanagon. I don't know the wattage. When it was -15 F, I would say that it helped but it sure didn't keep the oil anywhere near 35 degrees. But there is a big difference in -15 oil in the sump and +15!
