The reason John doesn't want to do that, if I recall, is that there is not
enough play in the hoses to slide the cooler over the pipe. You want to
take the pipe out, with our without the nut, so you can slip the o-ring
onto the top of the cooler, rethread the pipe and tighten it up without
removing the hoses. It is an order of magnitude worse to have to remove the
hoses and risk breaking them. That said, there is the case for replacing
the rubber while you are up there but as I said, let sleeping dogs lie
unless you want to get into a whole lot of work.
Yes, John, you can take the pipe out with the nut on it. You MIGHT be able
to reassemble with the nut on the pipe as is came out, but a lot of things
will have to go right before you get so lucky. It will be better to prepare
for the ability to engage the nut with a socket before you reassemble,
better yet before you disassemble. Let me know if you need a measurement on
the nut. I have the socket for that, but don't recall what it is.
John, email me about the idle stabilizer module. I have it.
