... a little left of MA and just up the road from Dennis Haynes - Adirondack region NY - similar weather. Bob, I run my 1.9 on 20/50 year round. however, in the late fall, as temps begin to dip, I top off with with a mix of 3/4 quart of 20/50 and 1/4 Marvel Mystery oil. as with anything left out, the first couple of rrrrrrr's are slow, but, ignition happens at third or fourth. I let it idle for about 5 - 10 minutes (yes, Scott, not good) while I pop back into the house to gather whatevers. residential area so I drive it easy until the temp needle is at the (unlit) LED. my `85 doesn't really burn oil but, the Marvel oil is very light - I check weekly and it might go a month or two before the level on the dipstick drops noticably - depending on run time, of course. hth. keep warm til the heat wave from Mark in AK gets here. can't rely on Chinese or Aussie icebreakers   =(:D)               mike ________________________________ From: Bob Anderson <ROBERTANDERSON294@COMCAST.NET> To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Sent: Wednesday, January 8, 2014 5:38 AM Subject: What is the recommended oil weight for northeast winter? The temps here in Massachusetts have been dipping down to single digits at night and I'm wondering if maybe I should change out the 20/50 oil I have in my 2.1 Wbxr? And, if so, what would be the recommended winter oil weight? Thanks, Bob A '86 GL
