generally ..if the speed limit is X ..you can go 5 mph over
'indicated' safely.
( if anyone relates to aircraft ...airspeed and a ground speed are too
entirely different thing. . It's even calledd IAS ..indicated air
speed. Same is true for a car speedometer .it's 'indicated' speed, not
actual true road speed . )
fwiw .............. I have had a radar speed trap cop tell me 'we
ticket at 9 mph over' .
that's pretty fair.
so ...for example..I got stopped going too fast in a 25 zone..
and it IS HARD TO GO only 25 mph , especially going downhill !!!
I said to the officier, " when i saw you ( with radar on ) i had my
speed at 37 mph . " ( my speedo was showing 40 mph when I saw him ,
obviously shooting radar at me. )
he said..that's what i had you at on radar, 37 mph.
since I knew what i was doing, and wasn't impaired ..he let me go.
it helps a LOT if you know, in advance what lights are not working , for
example. or what your exact speed is.
roughly ..about 60 % of vanagons have a license plate or rear side
marking light not working. People don't even check that stuff, and
cops just love to have a reason to pull you over.
It's a rare day when I see a vanago with ALL external running lights
working.
'cause then they can see if you're impaired..
if your insurance and license are legit etc.
