The clip that goes between the two pads and held by the pins are silencing clips. They just help to keep the pads from chirping. A good brake job would include replacing the clips, pins, etc. Unfortunately some of the aftermarket hardware kits are of very poor fitment. There are also other silencing options such as piston cushions. These work really well on those early two piston calipers.

There is a chrome clip that attaches to two pins on the outside of the brake caliper. We had a recent brake job and one of those clips broke and "tinkled" for over 100 miles. The other one was found laying on the ground where we park. Questions- 1. did they do the job wrong or did the parts fail?2. do we need this clips in place? Why? Thanks,Geneva
