lol.. nice to see your thoghts Larry . Personally I'll never say I'm 'too old' for anything. I will do a solo winter ascent of Mt. Shasta when I'm 80 if I can and that's not even that far away in years for me.

Well..a 2WD vanagon manual trans *if taken care of* will last almost indefenitely ...easily well over say 160,000 miles.

I never liked that striped-pattern interior anyway ...too flashy or 'busy' ...more bling than good taste let's say, IMO.

But some people want automatics and that's fine. I put a 2.1 in an 85 Weekender with auto trans.. full total complete conversion to 2.1 ..cooling system ..everything.

Driven decently like 65ish , even 60 to 65ish on the freeway it got 16.5 mpg ..several times. In the winter , in town short trips, it got 14mph.

Factor in ...others may not think this way ...but as a hard core camper/survivalist .. I would only want my Keeper Escape Pod Vanagon to be manual trans.. for the better fuel mileage... for the ability to push start it , for the ability to keep moving with a few systems not working like clutch hydraulic.. or even a whole gear not working.

with an automatic .if it doesn't start off the starter ...you're dead in the water right there. if it won't shift up into 3rd... not uncommon eventually ....you can't go over about 40- to 50 mph .

so sure ...no clutch pedal .. heck ..I shift them manually anyway ...I would never put it in 'D' and let it do it's own shifting ...or seldom anyway.

you should get it !! lol. Scott
