As a friend probably the best advice you could give is for him to wait until he can afford it. A low mileage vehicle at this age often represents one that has been off the road in need of some repair for some time. If not whatever parts that have not been worn from mileage will be effected by time, especially all rubber and plastic parts. Low mileage vehicles or vehicles from storage tend to have lots of stuff happen when they are suddenly pressed into service. Also 125K miles is at the point of what I'll call a maintenance cycle. From experience, it is very common for the purchase price to actually be just the down payment. Many folks have bought $15 to $20K and still needed engine or trans work. Suspension, paint, interior, window seals, tires, brakes, electrical. Etc. All this stuff takes money. I regularly see people buy these things and then a short time later have to sell them and get disappointed when they can't get their money back. It gets worse if they have to pay off the loan before they can sell it.

Just putting this out there in case you know of one 86+ in decent shape for a decent price. His bank won't lend him $$ for anything with over 125k miles - I told him this will be a challenge so his eyes are wide open.

He's on CL for Seattle and PDX + the Samba, but in the off chance you know of or have one to sell, please off list me.

Thanks, Marco
