Hi Tony,

Been there, done that. Luckily, when it happened I was at home, and I
had a spare brake bleeder nipple in my toolbox. I drilled out the hole
in the cap, threaded in the bleeder with some RTV silicone around it and
once the silicone set I was good to go. I probably put about 15000 miles
on that cap with the bleeder nipple attached, as once it proved its
worth I felt no hurry to change it.

Regardless of the weather, all plastics will off-gas as they age and get
brittle. Mine broke in the heat of the summer. There are lots and lots
of things waiting to break on any vanagon... it's part of the "charm" I
guess.
