There's no real reason for any gasoline instrument cluster to not work in any gasoline vanogon .. one does have to understand ..for example.. how to trick the 86 and up DOPS ( dynamic oil pressure system ) to be happy in an 85 or earlier vanagon ..which is quite easy if the later 2 oil pressure switch system is understood, and it's not super tricky or anything like that.

getting a green tach wire in the correct position on T14 , the instrument cluster , isn't hard .. or getting the blue/block oil pressure wire in the right place.. or figuring out which wire to ground to keep the DOPS in the late model instrument cluster happy ..none of that is really difficult.
