Hello, I'm a Vanagon newbie (86 GL with an awesome huge sliding sunroof!), and I've been on the list lurking and learning for a few years now. I recently bought some shoulder belts from GoWesty. I've got two kids in carseats and modern carseats are not considered safe with lap belts. http://www.gowesty.com/ec_view_details.php?id=3443 I took the belts to my trusted local shop and they told me the couldn't install them for liability reasons. Strange. Called another local Vanagon-oriented shop and they offered to order and install shoulder belts for me quickly, but also cited liability in installing user-supplied parts. (I'm guessing this doesn't apply to other parts (i'm sure if I hauled in a pick'n'pull'd dashboard they would install), but I suppose the point is moot. ) Admittedly, I'd taken these to the shop once I felt unsure that I'd be able to install them correctly; I'm not a mechanical idiot but also felt like this was an update I'd want done by professionals. I think I'm going to go with shop #2. Now, my question is - anyone on the list want to buy some shoulder belts for cheap? Let's say $150 shipped. They are unopened, still in the box. Thanks in advance... Ian C in Oakland |
