Maybe you don't help lots of people work on their vanagons.
I have ..
it's amazing how very little basic aptitude some people have sometimes.
and sure ..I buzz lugs nuts off one at a time sometimes..
but ..if I was doing it by hand...
I could not undo one completely, then the next , then the next ..I just
could not. That's completely contrarary to logic and practicality.
it's ALWAYS .......tighten down evenly in steps, and remove a set of
fasteners evenly in steps.
btw ...one of my sayings .."It takes 3 times longer to do things right."
most car work is rushed..
it's regarded as something to just put up with ..therefore just having
it done, and done 'good enough' is the common goal,
rather than as good as one can possibly get it within reason. That takes
longer ....yup.
I mean........how can people just droop wires across the top of an
engine when installing an aftermarket gauge for example ?
.....'pride of workmanship'. ? semi-.......... don't get me started. :-)
Believe me , for example ....when I take set of wheel and tires ( never
the whole car or van ) for mounting and balancing to a tire store ..
I tell them ...I will pay extra for a CAREFUL job ..
I am not interesting in a FAST job.
'how fast they can do it' ..they're real proud of that in tire stores.
And they make mistakes semi-fairly often.
