To give you an idea, my first Vanagon Westy I bought on Ebay, in 2003. It was an '84, I had to go to Ohio to pick it up. The seller was kind of a, well, hmmm, idiot. If I had been buying it in person I may have passed. Anyway, buy it I did. As I was leaving his house for the trip back to Virginia, he said "oh, I forgot to mention, the transmission has been rebuilt" (automatic). I said, by who? He said "Me, I did it myself" Well, that just filled me with confidence for the drive home!! Never did have a problem with it though, but it always made me nervous.
