Oh I bet that could be figured out.

Part of why I ask is due to a conversation I had with a local Vanagon mechanic. I'd asked of the 2.1 con rod bolts and why they sometimes fail. I'd suggested it was due to the bolt design but he said that by the time one piles up all their gear in the back, turns up the tunes, has a busy family chatting away, any noise created back there would be easily missed. Granted by the time the noise has started it might well be too late!

Just a thought toward a "splice and play" add on (similar in complexity to the headlight relay upgrade) that might be of use to some. IF it worked, my first thought is it would consist of a few wires, relay and possibly a fuse.
