Sorry for all these emails.

One clue indicating that my harness & ECU may require battery voltage sent to the hall, is this note in Bentley: "... early 1993 m.y. did not have MIL except for California vehicles." Here's the diagram regarding relevant notes on hall, my notes in red text:

Though the MIL pin is present on ECU, there was no wire from ECU to dash or MIL present in instrument cluster. The ECU, harness and cluster came from same donor.
