I have to echo the comments about Daryl. The VW community has lost another great. Daryl rebuilt the trans for my 87 Westy which was attached to the last engine Boston Bob built. Both live on in my van and those of many of this list. Daryl and I emailed and spoke for a while prior to my purchasing the trans and he made me comfortable in my decision to purchase from him. I finally met Daryl, ironically, at Boston Bob's funeral. It was like meeting an old friend. We had lots in common beside VWs. We both had Siberian Huskies and both huskies had the same personalities. He asked how the trans was holding up, and so I had to tell him the story of my wife's problem with the trans. My wife Deb has always driving a stick. At the time she had a 5 speed New Beetle Cabrio Turbo (now has an Abarth 500). She hadn't driven the van for 5 or 6 months, and so a month or so after the engine and trans was installed in my 87, she took it for the day to move some furniture. About an hour later, I got a paniced call from her. She thought she may have wrecked the new trans..she could not get it into 5th gear. After a good laugh, I reminded her that it was a 4 speed. I told this story to Daryl over a beer after BB's funeral and we both had a good laugh! Every once in a while I'd email him or call him and ask when he was going to fix my 5th gear problem! He will be missed....and my wife still can't find 5th gear! Ric
