Back to the original issues for a moment, while i was working through this I found that Bus Depot has new OEM 1.9 liter AFM's for half price. Van Cafe had some, if I remember correctly, for twice that much and they are NLA. Dennis says they rarely go bad, but it sure is tempting. Bus Depot does have a $50 core charge, though.
