Don't use steel wool. It will rust and break down very quicky. Use foil instead to shape and mold right over the splines while taking up any slack. You can always add one more little piece if it's not enough or get's loose. At some point, you will make it worse as the foil can't be compressed anymore and it will go the other way in regards to "fit".

This from a post I sent back in Aug2012

Regarding the StrippedSplines ~ Drape some SteelWool over the = post,

press the WiperArm on & apply your Nut or Bolt ~ works great. I lost my

splines 5 or 6 years ago in a blinding rain in Northern Ill. I pulled in = under

the pump shelter of a closed GasStation grabbed an SOS or Brillo pad out

of drawer in my Westy, applied the trick & drove on down the road ~ = slowly ~

as I could only see tail lights about 8ft in front of me. It's been = working fine

ever since.=20

The more I have thought about it, it may actually have been part = of a

Piece of 1 of those Pads from a FloorBuffer as I keep some of that in my = VDub

also ~ It just needs to be something that is JustTheRightThickness & = Coarseness

to Bight into BothMetals ~ I also have added a "PerfectFit" washer under = the nut,

if I remember correctly ~

ORR ~ = DeanB
