Thanks very much for the detailed information Poppie. Did you find that the OEM joint at the stator was actually a braze? (didn't melt with application of new "soft" solder?) Just a point of curiosity not contradicting your repair methods. That sounds like a very clever repair. That repair method sounds like a good solution for my needs; a spare known good starter for emergency use (I travel on forest service roads at times)
