From a software perspective, automatic transmission in the VR6 Vanagons has a separate ECU, and that ECU's function is integrated with the main computer. This why the 5-cylinder OBD I EV is more practical to convert. Also, the 5 cylinder might lend itself to a 1.8T conversion, which was used in a longitudal Audi application. Or perhaps the I-5 20VT from a 200 Quattro. Be proud, I trimmed my response. :-) Chris.
