If the thinking is why invest say $ 1,800 in a new rebuilt transmission when the van only cost say $ 1,500 to pick up .. and you might have trouble getting say $ 4,500 out of it .. therefore it's not worth investing in a rebuilt trans ?

if such is the thinking..drive something else. Vanagons are a passion .. incredibly useful and versatile.

So what is the value of satisfaction for building up a decent one fer oneself ? Priceless.

oh...if one wanted to do it really right .. hard to find..but there is a european higher Ring and Pinion gearset .. that would be a slight help rpm wise over what we normally have in our US models with the AT.
