One of those vans could have once belonged to my in-laws, or is that future ex in-laws? They drove a VW van for their move to Alaska from Indiana to teach in "Bush" villages. Three adults and one child for two months on the road and they arrived prior to Statehood which as you know was in 1959. I do not know if they arrived here in `58 or `59 but either way it must have been quite the trip driving the Alcan in a VW van in those days. Knowing that road the frost heaves and potholes they must have hit are probably the same ones there today even though they try to remove them every summer, or do they just make us think that is what they are doing as that road is always under repair.
