It's best to restore this system to OEM specs, which means replacement of the tanks and/or components with new ones. All the components are available from our vendors, though not cheap. You might be able to find some good used ones. The check valve is to prevent fuel from back-flowing to the canister and engine if you are ever upside down in a ditch. It and a tight grommet are safety devices best kept functional. PICS sorry for all the emails. re: "Automotive Goop". Since I threaded the bleeder screw into the snapped off nipple hole, and since I applied Goop to exterior, it might be ok for limited exposure to gasoline but who knows? Neil. http://eclecticproducts.com/_tds/automotive.pdf SOLVENTS THAT DISSOLVE AMAZING GOOP® "...... Gasoline ...... These are common solvents that dissolve AMAZING GOOP® when hardened samples were immersed. The dissolution with these solvents was not instantaneous and therefore does not preclude usage in all cases. Applications were an occasional splash or brief exposure is expected may be acceptable. Test a small area before full use. "
