Hi Volks, When trying to establish the value of a project I think it's entirely reasonable that you start with the selling price of a finished product, then subtract the cost of finishing it. With the body damage repaired and a fresh coat of paint, a west coast 91 vanagon westy should fetch $15K easily enough. So if the repair work can be done for $7800 then $7200 is not entirely unreasonable. Sometimes the cost of repair/finishing is more than the end value, in such cases the vehicle should be priced to represent the value that the component parts will sell for, MINUS the value of the cost of storage and labour to remove them. Back in the fall I sold my 1988 wolfsburg for less than I had invested because I didn't have the time and $$ available to fix it or part it. Winter was approaching and I needed to replace it, STAT. But for those with the luxury of time and space, more options are available and higher prices become possible.
