oh come on ..
no body is smart enough to say ...it's a 20+ year old car, I've told you
what I know about it ..
there's always risk it'll need 'whatever' ..
don't buy it unless you can take that on. People can't say that ?
I also like to tell people ..
you buy it ..you drive it 10 feet, and we're done. You don't get to
complain or bother me in the future about this car or van.
If you can't buy it with that understanding ..don't buy it.
getting price ideas of thesamba is a fine idea..
though vans' values depend a lot on where they are ..
the same van in Kansas could have an asking price 1/3 of the price for
the same van on the West Coast.
there is an advantage to buying a Vanagon needing an engine
rebuild..which will keep the price down some.
It puts the new owner in a better position to do an engine conversion of
some type.
'the ideal' van is very well cared for, in good condition ..
and has 'one problem' ..often the engine ..
that's a 4 to 6K problem to normal people..
but only a 1,500 or so dollar problem to someone who can fix things.
so sometimes you *want* a van with a tired engine.
I got all mine for $ 1,000 or around there .
including weekderers and westy's
yeah...I have a very decent 91 GL ...got it non-running for 900 bucks
..easy peasy !
