just think how the manual trans will save you on gas costs. and the payback on that, for your investment will only take a few years .

plus if the color makes you happy.. that's priceless !

that and an 87 is quite a step up from an 84. 87 is the first year ( I think it's an 87 ) that VW finished making all the upgrades and changes to their vanagons on. there are a 'few' more things added after 87 .. but mostly.. all the important factory upgrades are done by 87.. the better fuse box and electrical system , better sliding door, bigger engine.. better parking brake .. lots of good things ...all in 'basic' equipment upgrades.

you would have to lay out a chunk of cash though at first though, and Your current Westy is sellable and could bring something around 5, 6K .even a little more , marketed correctly.

heck .some people would ask $ 12,500 for your 84 with AT ! the color .. if that color is really what it looks like.. and it just 'makes you feel good' ..that's worth a lot.
