Roaring noises that change with road sped and engine load indicate a problem with the final drive. CV joints tend to click and clack or clunk. Wheel bearings tend to change noise based on weight and direction, hardly from engine noise.

The problem could just be coincidental. If brought on by the change in axle angles there may be loose bolts or the output bearings of the transaxle have an issue. If so you would probably have oil leaking at the axle flanges. Get the van on a lift and with the wheels being driven see if the noise source can be identified.

Sure does - seems like road speed.

Does the rumbling seem to change with road speed or engine speed?

Interesting - just last week I installed new GW shocks/springs on my Weekender bringing me up from Carat height to 'regular' Vanagon height - supposedly 1.5" lift however I gained 2.5" due to worn out Carat-height springs!

My issue is a new, very obvious rumbling/vibration only under power and in every gear. It immediately ceases when throttle is lifted in all cases. Shouldn't be the transaxle (<4y.o. Daryl special), but what about something with the rear axles? Any ideas?

I have installed the upper ball joint spacers from GW, they seem to be nicely machined.
