Since you are thinking about BigBrakes I would suggest that you LeanTowards 16" Wheels so as to be sure that you have PlentyOfRoom for the B'B's ~ I have SmallCars B'B's on the Front of VDubaru & the EuroVan15" Steelys that I run are 15x6 ET44 & I had to do some Modification to both the InsideOfTheWheels & to OuterMostCorners of the Calipers to avoid Contact & I do have 1/2In Spacers on the Front & 3/4In Spacers on the Rear but I was thinking I had done that so as to MakeRoom for the LargeTires that I run ( 225/60r15 Front & 235/75r15 Rear) ~ I mounted those Wheels almost 6yrs ago & I do remember that the Spacers on the Rear were needed for a Wheel/Tire Clearance issue but the 1s on the front may have just been for aesthetics ~

A friend of mine here in ABQ, who does Vanagon Conversions&CleanUps likes to use these ~ They really look PrettySweet on a Vanagon

On a Carat I would MostProbably go with 46"Rims + 225/60r16~Rear & 225/50r16Front ~ That would Lower the Front Slightly & keep your Speedo/Odo CloserToAccurate ~
