If the bearing thrust washer fell or turned it will get jammed between the flywheel and the case. At a minimum that thrust plate is now destroyed. I have seen that mishap destroy the engine case and/or the bearing shell. If you had the flywheel off you should have checked the crank end play as part of that repair. Then you would understand how the thrust plate and shims work. Also, since you likely removed the flywheel to replace the seal did you also replace the O-ring in the flywheel bore? What about the felt seal and ring for the pilot bearing? It is also recommended that the flywheel bolts be replaced. If they should fail to hold by the time you realize it the crankshaft is garbage.

Mark is the winner in this. I noticed, when I tightened the flywheel, one bolt kept on going a little more always. That pesky square looking shim is probably stuck in there. But I guess, it should turn still. How does that shim/washer stop it from turning? Zoltan

While you had the flywheel off the crankshaft, the end shim/washer may have dropped down out of position and is now jammed.
