Later tanks have screens in them. I have been wondering for some time if the reason VW stopped using the small pre-pump filters was because they started putting the pre-screen in the tank itself. Looking at your photos you can see evidence that even your tank was made with provisions for an in-tank filter assembly. The ends of the 4 ribs are bent over to make room and the center hole is dimpled to stiffen the hole area where the filter nipple would stress it. Mark
