I view a 5% discount as nice but trivial on the small orders I place. I'd rather have it add up to something meaningful later, and then I'll tick off another wish list item for free on a future order. I have a large wish list! Big tax refunds though, no way! As for me, I like to get my discount in the present when I'm buying. Like tax refunds, why should I wait? It's a pet peeve of mine. It's well known that most people either forget or don't care to use future discounts. Coupons get lost, etc. The net result is vendor got the marketing advantage of offering you 'future bucks' as a discount and got nothing extra when you purchased.
Just my 2 cents. And I want it now!
