Wanted to say that I used this guide to get into my cluster yesterday. I had taken it out of the vanagon to do the LED light upgrade. At that time I noticed that one of the PO must have been in it before, as it had the signs of being "repaired." It has worked intermittently since I had it. I say that someone had been in there because I see a metal tab being used to hold in place the top right gear that runs of the corkscrew.

Finally, it was time to get this fix. The issue in mine was the gray metal gear at the right was freewheeling on the gear shaft. I made some indentations to capture that gear onto the shaft. I was a PITA to slide everything into place, but it got done.

odometers are both working and I added mileage to it as it should be.

So thanks for putting this out there!
